About Us
The Central Valley Harness Association is a carriage driving club. Our association was organized to promote the safe use of equines (horses, ponies, miniature horses, donkeys, and mules) in harness. We drive for pleasure, recreation, and sport.
We are based out of the Fresno and Clovis area and serve all surrounding central California counties.

Our Story
Our association was formed by dedicated members of the community who wished to expand the “horse and carriage” horizons that were offered by a relatively new sport on the international scene. In January of 1995, led by chairperson Skyla Cochran and officers Barbara Brooke, Bill Cole, Carolyn Lanigan, Marie McKee, Sallie Phillips, and Kim Roberts, the new club came to life.
This new club offered members the opportunity to compete in a variety of ways from pleasure driving to Combined Driving Events (CDFs). Thanks to the efforts of many of the initial members, the club sponsored many clinics and “playdays” that focused on the nuances of dressage, obstacles, cones, and hazards. Members of the club began competing in various driving events throughout the state of California, and a few nationally. Many of them cut their teeth at small shows sponsored by local stables. CVHA became the proud sponsor of the Ram Tap CDE in 1997. This event drew interest throughout the driving world. All together the membership in our association grew to 70 members.
